Balasore sharecropper hangs self over crop loss

Soro: A sharecropper of Nuagaon village under Khaira block of Balasore district committed suicide by hanging himself from a mango tree allegedly due to crop loss on Sunday.

According to reports, one Gaurang Barik had taken a loan of Rs 12,000 from Gobindpur society, Rs 15,000 from Oupada cooperative bank, Rs 40,000 from Bandhan bank and Rs 21,000 from Spandan organisation for farm-related purposes.

The family members of the deceased peasant alleged that he was under severe mental stress after his cultivation in nearly five acres of land were damaged following the untimely rains and pest attack. He hanged himself from a mango tree yesterday afternoon.

The local police have launched a probe after registering a case of unnatural death.
