Baby delivered by Kadhamal school girl dies, headmistress suspended, 6 dismissed

Berhampur: In tragic turn of events, the baby girl born to the 14-year-old Class VIII student of a state-run tribal residential school in Baliguda of Kandhamal district Saturday night breathed her last at MKCG Hospital here today.

The minor girl and her baby had been admitted to Baliguda Sub-Divisional Hospital yesterday and had been shifted to MKCG Medical later.

On the other hand, Kandhamal Collector today suspended Radharani Dalai, the headmistress of the concerned school and dismissed six staffs of the hostel where the minor girl was staying. The dismissed staffs include, two matrons, one auxiliary nurse midwifery of the institute (ANM), two cook-cum-attendants and one warden.

The minor girl delivered a baby in the hostel bathroom of her school Saturday night. Odisha SC and ST Development Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi had ordered for an inquiry into the incident by the District Collector, after the issue snowballed into a widespread protest by locals, who blocked the NH-59 yesterday.

In the evening a Congress team also visited Daringbadi and took stock of the situation. The team went to the Daringbadi Police Station to inquire about the development of the probe process in the case.
