Australian Students Among Visitors For 149th Ekamra Walks

Bhubaneswar: Families, friends and students alike joined the 149th edition of the Ekamra Walks today at Old Town area. More than 40 walkers, both local folks and foreign travellers became a part of the walks this time. Twelve students from Australia, as part of Project Everest Ventures, also participated in the walk.

The 149th Ekamra Walks this weekend served as a reminder of why these Walks were important and needed, as one regular presence in these walks, Anirban Bhattacharya, a photo blogger from Kolkata, brought two other friends. The three of them documented Old Town and its history through picture stories gushed on about their experience at Ekamra Walks.

“I am so happy to know that it will be the 150th Edition of Ekamra Walks next week. Over the past few years I have seen the initiative grow beautifullly in its approach and experience.”  said Bhattacharya. A part of Bhaattacharya’s group, Arindam Deb, added that in spite of him being in Bhubaneswar, this was eye-opening for him because he never knew that there were so many legends and stories weaved into our heritage.

The walk, filled with stories of history and heritage and music, came to a successful conclusion with an Odissi dance recital performed at Padma Shree Ileana Citaristi’s dance school, Art Vision Dance Academy.

The concept behind Ekamra Walks goes to show the stories that one constantly finds in the ancient history and monuments of Old Town. How every walk is a journey taken together to discover something new. There are so many stories that are still hidden and we are not aware of and these walks are not just a way to discover these stories but to share them around.

The walks have picked up momentum this winter and Ekamra Walks is eagerly looking forward to celebrating its 150th edition next Sunday.
