Cuttack: The junior medicos of SCB Medical College and Hospital launched an ‘indefinite cease work’ stir starting from today over alleged attack of kin of patients on doctors on Tuesday.
Demanding security for doctors on duty in the hospital in the wake of the growing attack on the them, the SCB Post Graduate Doctor’s Association held a sit-in wearing black badges.
The agitating doctors demanded immediate fulfillment of their three point charter of demand including removal of hospital Superintendent Dr Shyama Kanungo, strengthening and proper reviewing of the security system, and announcement of stipend.
However, SCB Superintendent has assured that the patient-care would not be let affected by the stir and doctors would be hired from outside if needed.
“Nobody can give full security to anyone. Even VIPs are not secure today. I am in contact with the Dean and Administrative Officer of the college and would soon take a call on increasing number of security personnel in the hospital,” said Kanungo.
State Health Minister Pratap Jena also warned the agitating doctors of action against them in case the patient-care gets hit at SCB following the stir.
On the other hand, the House Surgeon Association of the hospital has extended its support to the agitating junior medicos of late.
Notably, relatives of a patient from Mahanga area of Cuttack district attacked an on duty doctor Aman Behera after his death on Tuesday. Doctors went on a cease work even after local police arrested three persons in this connection the same day.
