Assam ministerSambalpur: A four-member team led by Assam Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley visited the heritage residence of noted Assamese litterateur Lakshminath Bezbaroa located at Kacheri Chhak here, after arriving in the city this morning.

Doley, who has also accompanied by Assam Chief Minister’s media advisor Hrishikesh Goswami, had a talk with Sambalpur Collector Samarth Verma following the visit and had a discussion on all possible options of preserving the house which is in a dilapidated state.

Ahead of his visit to the heritage residence, Doley ruled out any differences between Odisha and Assam over the razing of Bezbaroa’s house and said the Assam Chief Minister had already talked to his Odisha counterpart over the issue. Both the states which share a cultural bond would reach a solution soon, he added.

“The next course of action on declaring the Bezbaroa house as a heritage site would be decided after our meeting with the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik,” said Doley.

Notably, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called up Naveen on October 27 and urged him not to demolish the Bazbaroa house for construction of an approach road to the newly constructed second overbridge on river Mahanadi. Sonowal also wrote a letter to Naveen emphasising the need of preserving the house.
