ASI Apologises For Damage To Puri Srimandir During Cyclone Fani

Puri: Officials of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) have apologised for the damage caused to lion idols of the Puri Srimandir during cyclone Fani, said Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, Temple Administration’s Chief Administrator, on Monday after a meeting of the temple management committee.

The Lion idols on the southern and western side of the temple suffered damage as scaffoldings set by the ASI around the temple had collapsed during the cyclone. The Superintending Archaeologist of the ASI apologised for the incident and the ASI team replaced the idols.

Mohapatra said that the superintending archaeologist of ASI sought apology for damage to lion idols and has assured that such incidents will not happen. “The ASI has also agreed to undertake an LED lighting project for the temple at their cost,” added Mohapatra.
