Ashram School Students Walk 26 Km Demanding More Teachers In Kandhamal

Kandhamal: Staging a unique way of protest to press their demand for more teachers, as many as 54 students of Belghar Sevashram School walked around 26 km and reached Tumudibandh block headquarter in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Wednesday morning.

The students of the residential school, managed by ST and SC Development department, Government of Odisha, began their protest march in the midnight and reached Tumudibandh early in the morning.

The students were seen holding various placards in their hands and shouting slogans during their protest march.

“Our school has been facing acute staff shortage and this had affected teaching. We have been demanding before the DWO to take necessary steps and fill up the vacancies, said a protesting student.

“Our school is located in a very remote area. The authorities hardly visit to our school. Hence, we decided to come to Tumudibandh to reach the government authorities as to address our grievance,” another student said.

“There are about 375 students in the school that comprises class VIth to Xth. However, there are only seven teachers including the Head Master in the school. We need more teachers,” said a student.

DWO Seshadev Behera reached the spot and had discussion with the protesting students, when the last reports came in.
