Anti-Plastic Drive: BMC seizes banned items weighing over 1 quintal, seals shop

Berhampur: Intensifying the anti-plastic drive in the ‘Silk City’, the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials today seized plastic and polythene items weighing over 1 quintal by conducting a raid on a shop located in Pandarasahi area.

As per the report, the enforcement squad of the BMC took part in the raid after getting a tip-off on the stocking and selling of banned plastic items by a wholesale shop in the area in the noon. During the raid huge quantity of single-use items like plastic plate, cup and spoons were seized and the shop was sealed.

“Along with the wholesale shop at Pandarasahi, five other shops located at Aska Road and Gate Bazaar were also raided today and fines were collected for the violation. The raid will continue in the coming days to make Berhampur a plastic-free zone completely,” said Tarunkant, Enforcement Officer, BMC.
