Malkangiri: A day after a tribal youth was mercilessly killed and several vehicles were torched by the red rebels near Banda ghat, anti-Maoist posters condemning violence have surfaced in various parts of the district in Odisha on Thursday.
Adivasi Ekata Manch, a tribal outfit, put up posters at different places of Kalimela and Khairput block accusing the Maoists as agents of anti-development and anti-tribals. The posters also appealed the local residents to unite and oppose Maoists’ activities in every nook and corner of the district.
Minor tribal girls and boys were being lured and recruited into the red rebels and those trying to return to the mainstream were being killed branding them as police informer, a poster read.
Citing example of tribal men like Soma Pangi of Chitrakonda and Dambaru Nayak of Kalimela, who had been associated with red rebels for long period of time but gunned down by the extremists recently, the Manch asked the tribal people to refrain from the Maoists.
“Soma Pangi was working for Maoists for long. He was once known as the right hand man of Naxal leader RK, but why was he branded as a police informer and killed,” the Manch asked.
“After 70 years of independence, road construction work has started near Banda ghat in the district but the Maoists torched all the vehicles engaged in the construction work,” another poster read saying if better road ways developed in the area, all will be benefited; the socio-economic conditions will be improved.
“We want development, not destruction,” it stated.
