Koraput: The anti-Maoist operations in Koraput district of Odisha have been stopped for seven days, announced Superintendent of Police (SP) Kanwar Vishal Singh, while addressing a press meet here on Friday.

However, the SP clarified that the combing operations will be halted only in forest areas but the operation will be continued on roads connecting to villages in Maoist-affected areas in the district.

Singh also appealed the ultras to surrender before the police.

“We are appealing the Maoists to surrender before the police. We will help them to get all rehabilitation benefits provided by the government,” Singh said.

“The surrendered persons will be provided vocational training to lead a normal life in the mainstream of society,” he added.

Koraput, which shares borders with Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, has significant presence of Maoists.
