Balasore: In yet another case underlining the irrestible attraction of the ‘’Blue Whale Challenge’ among youngsters in Odisha, a student of Balasore Government ITI was caught by police playing the deadly internet game on Monday. The ITI authorities handed over the student to his parents after the revelation.

The rescued student has been identified as Shiba Sundar Nandi (18), a second year student of electrical trade in the ITI.

The incident came to fore after some fellow students of Shiba found him under immense mental stress in his hostel for the last 2-4 days. While trying to find out the reason behind his mood change, they witnessed him playing “Blue Whale Challenge” on his mobile and took the matter to the notice of the ITI’s principal.

Shiba is stated to have completed the 11th stage of the game successfully.

After putting Shiba on watch for a couple of days, the ITI’s principal Krushna Chandra Rout found the allegation to be true and seized his mobile phone after raiding his hostel room. Later, he informed his parents as well as the Sahadevkhunta Police on Monday.

Police took both Shiba and his father to the police station and released him after counselling. The student was taken to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) later in the day due to his mental condition.

He is out of danger, said medical authorities.
