Jagatsinghpur: “Farmers must come together and elect their own representatives among them and send them to the Parliament,” said famous social activist Anna Hazare while encouraging the farmers to fight for their rights like price, pension and prestige here on Thursday.
“The farmers must unite themselves and select a candidate among them to contest the general election without entering any political party. They should contest the election as an individual and send their representatives to both the Houses of the Parliament to fight for their rights,” said Anna Hazare while speaking exclusively to KalingaTV after addressing a Jai Kishan Samavesh in Jagatsinghpur today. However, he reiterated that he himself will never ever join politics.
Hazare believed that the farmers can win the election as an individual saying there is no party affair in Indian Constitution.
“Farmers can contest the election and need not to spend money as the political parties do, because there is no party in Indian Constitution. The Constitution says one can contest the general election when he becomes 25 year-old,” he added.
“The 2019 general election is at hand. But, the farmers should prepare themselves for the 2024 election and I will seek votes for them,” he added.
While addressing the farmers’ conclave on the premises of Jagatsinghpur Collectorate which was orgainsed by the Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NSK), he demanded that a farmer should receive 1.5 times the money he/she spends towards agriculture and a farmer beyond 60 years should be entitled to receive pension.
Hazare also sought a pledge from the farmers to quit drinking and not to commit suicide but fight for their rights till the get them.
The social activist also paid tributes to former Chief Minister of Odisha and freedom fighter Nabakrushna Choudhury on the occasion of his 116th birth anniversary today.
