Angul man forced to beat gong moves OHRC

Angul man who was forced to beat gong lodges complaint at OHRCBhubaneswar: Dushmanta Sahu of Ragudiapada village in Angul district, who was forced to beat a gong as punishment by the village kangaroo court, lodged a complaint at Orissa Human Rights Commission (OHRC), flanked by the women’s wing of Odisha BJP here on Tuesday.

Sahu, the husband of a ward member of Badakera panchayat Mallika Sahu, was forced by the village kangaroo court to go around the village beating a gong as punishment for his wife not voting for a particular candidate for the post of naib sarpanch recently.

Dushmanta had lodged a police complaint against the Ragudiapada village head and secretary in connection to the kangaroo court. However, police did not take any action until the premier TV channel in Odisha “Kalinga TV” highlighted the issue on Thursday.

Later, Bantala Police registered a case against 52 persons, including Ragudiapada village head and secretary, on charges of holding a kangaroo court and forcing Sahu to beat a gong as punishment.
