Anganwadi worker on Hunger strike in Balasore

Balasore: An Anganwadi worker went on a hunger strike along with her family members yesterday in front of the District Collector’s office for getting back her job. Earlier she was working in the Anganwadi centre of Gandibed Jalanga village under Simulia police limits of the district.

As per reports, Mamata Jena was working as an Anganbadi worker in the above-mentioned village for the last 9 years. However, she was removed from the job on June 24 this year and another woman named Manjulata Panigrahi was appointed on her place.

Alleging discrimination Mamata has claimed that the woman who was appointed in her position hails from an upper caste. She further claimed that as the women did not fulfill the required eligibility her application had been rejected by the CDPO of Khaira.

The Anganwadi worker stressed to continue the hunger strike until she would not be given back her job. However, later IIC of Khunta Police Station reached the spot and talked to her. He took her to the office of the Additional Collector. After having a discussion about the matter Mamata called off her hunger strike. As per the Additional Collector, the matter of her removal from the job is pending with the High Court.
