Bhubaneswar: Protesting denial of ticket, dissident BJP leader from Ekamra Bhubaneswar Constituency Amiya Das staged a sit-in protest (dharna) outside BJP Party office here on Saturday.
Earlier, supporters of Das had locked the gates of BJP Headquarters in protest. They also demanded reconsideration of his candidature. Discontented workers also ransacked the office of BJP in Laxmipur, opposing the finalisation of Kumuda Saunta as the candidate.
After the release of BJP’s candidate list, dissatisfaction has gripped party workers, with several of them leaving party after failing to get ticket. Disgruntled workers have staged protest in Bhubaneswar. Cuttack Choudwar, Koraput, Jajpur and Nuapada.
Meanwhile, women workers at Choudwar have opposed the candidature of Nayan Mohanty and launched ‘Nayan Hato BJP Bachao’ agitation under the leadership of former BJP Mahila Morcha President Shanti Mukherjee. They have warned of dire consequences if the party does not cancel Mohanty’s candidature.
