Ambulance ‘delay’ leads to patient death in Puri, staff detained

Puri: Tension prevailed in Aingola village under Sorabha panchayat in the district last night, after angry locals detained the staff of a 108 ambulance for making delay in turning up and causing death of an ailing woman.

The deceased identified as Krushna Barik, wife of Jhatu Barik of the village developed acute stomach pain at around 1 AM in the night. Finding no other option available to rush the patient to a nearby hospital, her family members called up 108 ambulance service for assistance. As per the villagers, the ambulance made inordinate delay in reaching the spot and arrived at around 5 AM in the morning. The woman had died by that time.

Angry villagers detained the ambulance staff for hours and sought an explanation on the delay following the incident. They released the ambulance along with its staff only after the Nayahat Police rushed to the spot and intervened.

The incident has sparked resentment among the residents in the village.
