All school teachers to be vaccinated on priority by Sep 5 in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: As schools are gradually reopening amid fear of the COVID-19 third wave, all the teachers in Odisha to get vaccinated on priority basis by September 5, informed Bijay Panigrahi, Director, Health and Family Welfare.

The Health department have started the process of vaccinating all the government and non-government school teachers after Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has asked all the states including Odisha to smoothen the process of vaccinating teachers on priority by September 5, added Director.

The district education officer (DEOs) and the block education officer (BEOs) have been instructed to prepare a list of how many teachers have been vaccinated and not yet vaccinated, said Bijay Panigrahi.

The vaccine will be administered through a special drive. It will begin on the 27th after receiving an additional 11 lakh vaccinations. Of which 9, 92,380 are Covidshield and 1,24,000 are Covaxin vaccines. We have set a target to vaccine all the teachers and school staff by September 5, informs Health and Family Welfare Director.

It is pertinent to mention here that all schools in the state had been shut after a nationwide lockdown was announced in March last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
