Alert! Cyclone likely to hit Odisha on May 10

Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar informed on Friday that the cyclonic storm is likely to hit Odisha coast on May 10.

The Low Pressure Area over South Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal is very likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a depression by evening of May 7.

It will further intensify into a Cyclonic Storm by evening of May 8, added the weather department.

MeT also added that it is very likely to continue to move northwestwards and reach Westcentral Bay of Bengal off north Andhra-­Odisha coasts by May 10.

Notably, a low pressure area has formed over South Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over South Andaman Sea & neighbourhood, informed Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar on May 6.

Prior to that, a cyclonic circulation has formed over South Andaman Sea and its neighborhood on May 5 and extended up to mid-tropospheric levels.

It is pertinent to mention that heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands till May 8 because of this system and fishermen have been asked not to venture into Andaman Sea during next three days; into southeast and central Bay of Bengal during next five days.

Squally with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely to prevail over Andaman Sea & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal and it is likely to increase to 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph by May 8 over north Andaman Sea & adjoining Southeast and Eastcentral Bay of Bengal.
