Puri: Special rituals are being performed by the servitors of Jagannath Temple in Puri on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya today.
The temple administration has also made special arrangements for the water sports festival ‘Chandan Yatra’ of the Trinity.
All preparations have been made for Chandan Jatra this year. Platoons of police force have been deployed for security, traffic arrangement, drinking water arrangement, electric and health services arrangement.
As per tradition, the Akshaya Tritiya rituals mark the beginning of chariot construction for the world famous Rath Yatra. Jagannath Rath Yatra festival is falling on July 1 this year.
After a gap of two years this time the famous Chandan Jatra will be held amid presence of devotees. The Narendra Pond of Puri has been decked up for the Chandan Jatra.

What is the significance of Akshaya Tritiya?
On this holy occasion, both shoppers and sellers prepare for good commerce. Particularly, the Hindus and Jains spend the day with joy and zeal, buying gold in the hopes of attracting good fortune.
The day of Akshaya Tritiya in Jainism commemorates Lord Rishabhdev, the first Tirthankara, finishing his one-year austerity by drinking sugarcane juice poured into his cupped hands.
People who practise Varshi-tap, a year-long alternative day of fasting, end their Tapasya by sipping sugarcane juice on this day.
People also invest in gold on this auspicious day to get blessed with wealth during the year. It is popularly believed that the wealth also multiplies during the year.
