Puri: With the holy trinity lord Jagannath, lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra gradually recovering from sickness inflicted due to excess bath during ‘Snana Yatra’, they would be treated with ‘Phuluri oil’ (a special herbal oil) on their fifth day of ‘Anabasara’ stay in the Srimandir on Tuesday.

As a part of the prevailing rituals in this 12th Century shrine, the deities would be offered with ‘Phuluri Tela Seba’ by the authorised Pati Mohapatra servitors in the temple. The ritual which happens to be secret in nature is considered as immensely helpful in curing the sickness of deities to prepare them for the annual sojurn ‘Rath Yatra’ scheduled to be held on July 14 this year.

As per the practise, the ‘Phuluri oil’ with which lord Jagannath and his siblings are treated with gets prepared by the Bada Odia Matha every year. The oil is prepared by mixing several fragrant flowers, sandalwood powder, Bena Chera, fragrant rice and Camphor. The preparation starts on the occasion of ‘Hera Panchami’, the fifth day of the Rath Yatra every year and after being stored under the ground for almost a year gets handed over to the temple authorities for use.

The deities, who are on a 15-day long ‘Anabasara’ stay in the temple currently, would recover from sickness a day before Rath Yatra on the occasion of Naba Jaubana Darshan to appear before devotees.
