Ailing elephant calf dies under treatment at OUAT in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Adding to the growing elephant death incidents in the state in past few days, another ailing jumbo calf died under treatment at Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) here today.

The baby elephant which was around 8-months old had been rescued by forest officials from Hitinda Forest under Hindol Forest Range on November 24.

The calf succumbed this morning due to breathing problem caused by mouth infection and high fever, informed Veterinary doctors treating it.

Notably, a team of officials comprising of Forest Officer Sudarshan Patra, ACFO Jeetendra Nath Das, Hindol Ranger Madhusudan Patra, and Forester Bikram Sethi had rescued the elephant from Hitinda Forest after getting intimation from locals on the day of the incident.
