Ahead of polls huge haul of Maoist materials seized in Malkangiri dist

Malkangiri: Two days ahead of the Odisha Panchayat Polls in the Mao prone Malkangiri district of Odisha Police on Sunday evening seized huge haul of Mao materials including explosives, informed Malkangiri SP Nitesh Wadhwani.

The materials were seized during a joint operation conducted by SOG, DVF and BSF in the Nagamanjeri forest area under Jantri Panchayat in the Swabhiman Anchal of Malkangiri district.

The seized materials include 5 guns, tiffin bomb, pressure IED, 2 detonators, electric wire and equipment to make landmine. It was seized ahead of the elections in the Chitrakonda block.

As per reports, keeping in view the panchayat polls area combing, search operation as well as domination operations are being conducted in the Swabhiman area by the security personnel.

It has been learnt that the ultras had buried these items under the ground targeting security personnel. The police team had gone to take stock of the situation so that the panchayat polls can be peacefully conducted when they received information about it. Accordingly, the team moved to the spot and seized the Mao materials buried under the ground.

Police have kept a strict vigil on the movement and activity of the ultras keeping in view the polls. Combing operation has been enhanced in the area for free, fair and smooth conduct of the polling. Extensive search operation has been launched following the seizure.
