Agni-5 missile successfully test-fired from Odisha

Bhadrak: Ballistic missile Agni-5 was test-fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Abdul Kalam Island in the district on Sunday.

The indigenously developed intercontinental surface-to-surface nuclear capable missile was fired from launch pad number 4 at around 9.59 AM.

The 17-metre long and 2-metre wide missile has a strike range of 5,000 km to 8,000 km that can reach almost all parts of China. Its weight is around 50 tonnes and can carry a nuclear warhead of more than one tonne.

With today’s successful test, the missile has been now tested for six times. The missile was last tested on January 18 this year. The first test of Agni-5 was conducted on April 19, 2012. Later, the test was conducted on September 15, 2013, the third on January 31, 2015 and fourth on December 26, 2016 from ITR.

The missile will be inducted into tri-service after some more trials.
