Abhijit Iyer Row: Odisha House Committee to meet on Sept 22

Bhubaneswar:  The House Committee, formed by the State Assembly to probe into Journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra’s alleged derogatory remarks on various aspects of Odisha, will hold its maiden meeting on Saturday.

Leader of Opposition (LoP) Narasingha Mishra, who heads the Committee, said that the meeting will be held at the State Assembly here at 4 PM.

The six-member Committee includes BJP Legislature Party leader K V Singhdeo and BJD legislators Debi Prasad Mishra, Arun Sahoo, Sanjay Dasburma and Pramila Mallick.

On Thursday, Speaker Pradip Amat formed the Committee after the members cutting across the party lines slammed the controversial journalist and demanded adequate action for his series of derogatory remarks on art, culture and State of Odisha.

Later on yesterday, the journalist was arrested in the nation capital  but soon granted a conditional bail by a Delhi court.

On September 15, Abhijit Iyre accompanied by former MP Baijayant Panda and senior journalist Aarti Tikoo visited Puri, Konark, Chilika and other places of the State in a helicopter owned by IMFA.

Abhijit had posted a video on Twitter making derogatory remarks on the Sun Temple in Konark while being present at the spot that triggered a state wide outrage against him.
