Abhijit Iyer Mitra writes apology letter to Odisha Assembly Speaker

Bhubaneswar: Journalist and defence analyst Abhijit Iyer-Mitra has written an apology letter to Odisha Assembly Speaker Pradip Amat for his derogatory remarks on Sun Temple in Konark and undermining the dignity of the rich culture of the state.

Abhijit, a friend of former Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, was summoned to appear before the House Committee today. He skipped appearance before the Assembly panel for inquiry into alleged breach of privilege.

Meanwhile, the members of the committee, headed by Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra, attended the meeting this morning as Abhijit was expected to appear in person before the House committee and put his stand on the allegations leveled against him.

On October 4, the Supreme Court refused to grant bail to the Delhi based journalist saying “If your life is in danger, then what better place to stay than the jail, you will be secure.”

Abhijit was arrested in the national capital on September 20 but was granted bail by a Delhi court. He was asked to furnish a surety of Rs 1 lakh and told to join the probe in Bhubaneswar by September 28

On September 16, Abhijit had posted a video on Twitter making derogatory remarks on the Sun Temple in Konark while being present at the spot.
