Abhijit Iyer-Mitra to reappear before Odisha Assembly House Committee today

Bhubaneswar: Delhi-based journalist and blogger Abhijit Iyer-Mitra, who courted controversy over his distasteful remarks on the Konark Sun Temple, Odisha and its legislators will reappear before before the State Assembly House Committee today.

Mitra’s statement has already been recorded by the Committee headed by Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Narasingha Mishra and five other legislators namely, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Debiprasad Mishra, Pramila Mallick, Arun Kumar Sahoo and Sanjay Kumar Das Burma during his first appearance on October 23.

During his appearance, the Committee also asked Iyer-Mitra to file a detiled affidavit in connection to breach of privilege of the House for his alleged derogatory remarks against the State legislators.

Mitra was arrested by the Twin City Commissionerate police in connection with a criminal case filed against him at the Saheed Nagar Police Station in Bhubaneswar soon after his deposition before the Committee. Later, Mitra was taken on remand by Konark Police which produced him in the Konark JMFC Court on October 28 following interrogation.

After today’s appearance before the House Committee, Mitra will be sent to Jharpada Jail, says report.
