Abhijit Iyer Mitra released from Odisha jail

Bhubaneswar: Controversial Delhi Journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra was released from the Odisha jail this evening. He was released from the jail as the Orissa High Court granted him bail yesterday.

According to reports, Abhijit left for the  Biju Patnaik International Airport from the Capital Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment.

“He (Abhijit) will visit Chennai to meet his mother,” said Abhijit’s advocate Nikhil Meyer after the scribe was discharged from the hospital.

The Konark JMFC court also granted Iyer Mitra bail today against Rs 20,000 surety bond.

The scribe was lodged in Jharpada jail since his arrest on October 23 for his derogatory remarks over Konark Sun Temple, Odisha and its people.

Odisha government also on Tuesday informed that it has decided to drop all charges against Abhijit.  The state government’s decision came after he tendered an unconditional apology before the Assembly House Committee.
