94 kg ganja seized, 2 peddlers held in Cuttack

Cuttack: Launching a crackdown on illegal drug traders in the district, police arrested at least two peddlers after conducting a raid in Jhinkiria village under Cuttack Sadar police limits on Saturday and seized around 94 kg of ganja from their possession.

The arrested peddler duo have been identified as Narayan Pati and his brother Lalat Pati.

The Qiuck Action Team (QAT) of the Twin City Commissionerate Police raided the brother duo’s house in the village in the morning after getting a tip-off on their involvement in ganja trade. During the raid, the team found several packets of ganja stored in the house and seized those. Later it took the duo into custody.

Police said the seized ganja would cost around Rs 4.5 lakh and had been stored to get dispatched to different parts of Cuttack district as well as other parts of the state.

Quizzing of the held peddlers by the police is underway to examine the role of any larger drug network in the case.

Pointing at the flourishing drug trade in the state, Kandhamal Police had seized a ganja consignment weighing around 27 kg and arrested three peddlers after conducting a raid in Baliguda area on May 11, in similar fashion.
