900 schools with less than 10 students to be closed in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Over 900 schools across the state will be closed for having less than 10 students on the rolls informed School and Mass Education Minister, Samir Ranjan Dash today.

As per reports, 966 primary schools across the State have been identified by the government that registers student strength below 10. The government have initiated a process to relocate the students to nearby schools.

Speaking about the new decision, Das informed that transportation and escorts expenses will be paid to the students who will be transferred to the new schools.

“Students having an attendance of more than 75% will be entitled to get Rs 6,000 annually (Rs 600 per month for 10 months). Rs 4,000 will be provided to students having attendance between 50% and 75% and Rs 3,000 for attendance between 30 and 50%,” said Das.

However, no transportation allowance will be provided if the attendance of a student is less than 30%. The teachers of the affected schools will be posted to those schools where there is a vacancy of teachers, informed sources.
