9 migrant labourers rescued in Balangir, trafficker held

Balangir: Adding to the unending episode of distress labour migration in Odisha, police have rescued at least nine persons from Muribahal area in Balangir district while being trafficked to neighbouring States.

As per the report, a night patrolling team of Muribahal Police came across a group of labourers who had been gathered at Lebada Mada Bhati Chhak by an agent and asked him for the necessary documents.

As the agent failed to produce the required papers needed for labour migration he was detained and the labourers were rescued.

The rescued labourers include three from Balangir, 2 each from Tarabha, Sailata and Lebada. They have been sent back to their homes post questioning by police.

An investigation is currently underway into the incident.
