8 people killed in Odisha in rain, flood: SRC Bishnupada Sethi

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain and flood-related incidents have taken eight lives in the State so far, confirmed Odisha Government today.

An average rainfall of over 100 mm SRC has been recorded across Odisha in last 24 hours, said Bishnupada Sethi, Special Relief Commissioner while addressing a press conference in the capital city.

As per the SRC report, highest rainfall has been recorded in Karlamunda block of Kalahandi district in the same time period. It stands at 608 mm, Sethi added.

Quoting the report the SRC said, Bolangir (226.3 mm ), Boudh (169.7 mm), Kalahandi (160.4 mm), Sonepur (139. 9 mm) and Kandhamal (125 mm) makes the other places where heavy rain took place.

Pointing at Kalahandi and Balangir as worst-affected areas the SRC claimed that two blocks in these districts have recorded more than 400 mm rainfall whereas four other blocks experienced rainfall of over 300 mm. In 40 other blocks in Odisha, the rainfall has been recorded at 100-200 mm.

A little solace in the worsening flood situation in the State all the major rivers are still flowing under the danger mark, the presser assured.
