Kendrapara: At least eight houses belonging to three families were gutted in a deadly fire which erupted at Chhapali village in Mahakalapada Tehsil under Kendrapara Marine Police Station area on Monday.
Sparks erupted first in the cattle shed of one Chittaranjan Dalai’s house in the village in the morning and then spread to his house. While the family tried to douse the flames on their own, it went on catching up other houses in the locality rapidly.
Till two fire tenders from Mahakalapada reached the spot getting intimation on the incident, as many as eight houses and property worth lakhs had been gutted. Two cows also sustained burn injuries in the mishap.
Fire officials informed that the mishap took place due to an electric short circuit in the cattle shed of Dalai’s house.
