78-year-old Maharashtra woman sets example by cleaning Puri beach

Puri: It sounds interesting but true that a 85-year-old octogenarian woman from Maharashtra Sakhubai Deshmukh lend a useful hand in cleaning the Puri beach recently, which seems otherwise a Herculean task for others.

Sakhubai was felicitated with a letter of appreciation for her work by Puri Collector Balwant Singh who also thanked her for working towards making Puri beach free of piles of wastes.

Working in close coordination with Maharashtra-based Shri Santh Janardhan Swamy Sanstha of Maharashtra Sakhubai participated in the MoBeach Initiative of Puri district administration and cleaned a significant portion of the beach from garbage.

She played a pivotal role in cleaning solid wastes like plastic glass, cups, bottles, aluminium cans thrown by visitors Jagannath Temple, Puri Hospital and beach to win the accolade.

Later, acknowledging the work of the octogenarian, Puri district administration took to its twitter handle and appealed others to carry the noble initiative forward by quoting Sakhubai.

Notably, mother of eight children, Sakhubai is an active volunteer of the Shree Sant Janardhan Swami Sanskar Sanstha.
