Balasore: With no respite in sight from the spike in rape of children in the state, police arrested a youth in Purushottampur village in Antantpur panchayat under Soro police limits in the district on Sunday under charges of sexually assaulting a sever-year-old girl.
The accused has been identified as Manindra Mallick, son of Hatia Mallick of the same village.
As per a complaint filed by the victim’s mother at Soro Police Station, the incident took place on May 11. On the day of the incident, Hatia managed to take her daughter to a lonely lift irrigation point located in the village on the pretext of giving some food items. Later he raped the minor brutally inside the lift irrigation point.
The rape of the minor took place while her family was busy in a marriage procession which was being held in the village.
Soro Police has sent both the accused and the victim for medical tests and are waiting for the report to decide upon the next course of action.
