7 houses, assets worth lakhs gutted in Cuttack village fire

Cuttack: At least seven houses of four families were gutted and property worth lakhs burnt after a deadly fire erupted in Barabodia village under Madhya Kachha panchayat in the district last night.

Sparks erupted in one Ashok Kumar Swain’s house in the village late in the night while all his family members were asleep. Till they knew about the mishap flames had spread to the houses of four of his neighbours namely Ajay Kumar Swain, Sanjay Kumar Swain and Bansidhar Swain. Till the villagers made an effort to bring the flames under control all assets of the victim families had been reduced to ashes.

Fire tenders from Chauliaganj and Salipur doused the fire reaching the spot later in the night after getting intimation from the victim families.

While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be known, Fire Department officials suspect it to be a case of electric short circuit.

Meanwhile, locals have demanded adequate compensation to the victim families who lost their property to the mishap.
