7 girls engaged in sex racket rescued in Konark

Puri: The district police on Saturday conducted raids on several hotels and lodges in Konark and rescued seven girls who were engaged in sex racket. Police also detained nine persons for their involvement in the flesh trade.

Acting on the allegations of prostitution racket being operated in several hotels in the area, a special police team of the district police conducted the raids under the leadership of Nimapara SDPO Niranjan Padhi and detained 16 people including the girls.

Police sources said that while the girls have been sent to the short-stay home, the other arrested male persons have been forwarded tot he court.

The district police has decided to convene a meeting with hotel and lodge owners’ on April 10 to put a check on such incidents, added the sources.
