7-feet-long leopard hide seized in Deogarh, 3 held

Deogarh: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch today seized a leopard hide after conducting a raid in Barkot area of Deogarh district and arrested at least three persons in connection with illegal animal skin trade.

The held accused have been identified as Sachikanta Nayak of Sundergarh, Ramanisen Behera of Deogarh, and Jagnadutta Behera of Deogarh.

“A special police team conducted the raid in Barkot area following an input and apprehended the accused trio while they were preparing to strike a deal to sell the 7-feet long leopard skin”, said STF SP Rahul PR while informing on the arrest.

After arrest the Crime Branch has charged the accused trio under relevant Sections of the IPC and Wildlife Protection Act.

Further interrogation of the held persons is underway to examine the involvement of an inter-state racket in the case.
