7 Akhandalamani Temple servitors injured in acid attack

Bhadrak: In a shocking incident, at least seven servitors sustained burn injuries due to an acid attack that took place during a group clash among themselves at Akhandalamani temple of the district on Wednesday.

According to reports, a word of exchange ensued between the two groups of servitors over performing puja for some devotees, which later took ugly turn, following which a group threw acid on the sevayats of another group.

Speaking about the incident, Daitari Padhi of Aradi village in Dhusuri Tehsil of the district, one of the servitors who was injured in the acid attack, said “Some of my villagers had come to the temple for puja yesterday. They identified themselves and recognised me and asked me to do the puja for them. However, some other servitors came and forcibly took them. When I protested, they attacked me.”

“They also attacked my friend when he came to my rescue. Later, some others came to support us. However, one Mrityunjay Padhi among them threw acid on us,” he added.

The injured servitors were rushed to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and are being treated there. Two of them are stated to be critical.

Meanwhile, police have detained two servitors for interrogation.
