65 kg ganja seized in Koraput; 3 including woman peddler held

Koraput: Police seized around 65 kg of ganja and arrested three peddlers including a woman after conducting a raid in Jalaput village near Machkund area in Koraput district last night.

The raid was conducted after Machkund Police got a tip-off on the suspicious movement of a Tata car through Machkund area last night. After intercepting the vehicle near Jalaput village and carrying out a search of it the police officials found several sacks of ganja and seized them. Later it arrested three persons who were boarding the car.

The seized ganja consignment would worth around Rs 62,810. It was being sent to neighbouring Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh States from Jalaput area, said Machkund Police.

The arrested peddlers would be forwarded to court today, it added.

Notably, in a similar incident on June 30 this year, police had seized over a quintal of ganja after conducting a raid in Padua village under Nandapur Tehsil and arrested seven peddlers. Earlier, on May 6, Jeypore Town Police had arrested three persons and seized a ganja consignment of around two quintals from their possession after intercepting a Mahindra Bolero on Jeypore-Boriguma road on NH-26. The banned drug was being sent to the neighbouring Chhattisgarh, police claimed then.
