61st Senior Police Officers’ Conference begins

Bhubaneswar: 61st Senior Police Officers’ Conference began on Thursday in Police Bhavan here. Police DG Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma inaugurated this conference where many senior Police officers are also going to be attendees. The event will go on for 3 days.

Prime agenda on the first day was law and order situation in the state, tackling Maoists, intelligence department, and Police’s role in the state’s major events. Experts have arrived from out of Odisha to train state officials.

Police DG Dr Sharma has advised senior Police officials to make their work citizen-centric. He said that officers with better performance will receive prime responsibilities. He also said if an officer falters, the department will try its best in improving his/her performance.

“In 2019, the biggest challenge will be the upcoming general elections which are going to happen in a few months. Odisha Police is already begun preparing for the elections. First step will be to sensitize people for the elections. In this conference, we have kept a session where Chief Election Officer who will undertake a preliminary sensitization process. Next step will be to have similar discussions at all levels. Odisha Police will also take all kinds of preventive measures. Estimating the manpower, tackling the anti-social elements to ensure free and fair elections in Odisha”, said Dr Sharma.

He also stressed on increasing the Police presence in Maoist affected areas. Drones might very soon be used in such areas. Strengthening the Intelligence Department will now be a foremost step, added Dr Sharma.

 Also, combing operations in Mao-infected areas will be imperative. Additionally discussed on day one was Police’s role in any major events in Odisha.

Attending the conference were district ACP, range IG, DIG, Cuttack-Bhubaneswar DCP, under-training IPS officers. Also present were senior officials from Homeguard, Fire Service, Vigilance departments.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik will be a part of closing ceremony of 61st Senior Police Officers’ Conference.
