Rayagada: Villages of at least six panchayats under Kalyansinghpur block got cut-off from the rest of the Rayagada district today as flash flood in river Kalyani washed away a temporary bridge over it.
The incident took place minutes after the water level started flowing above the danger mark in the river triggered by incessant rain in the upper catchment areas last night and reached up to five feet over the bridge, says report.
As a result, villagers including school children depending on the temporary bridge for their daily chores remained stranded.
Notably, in July 2017 a permanent bridge over the Kalyani river had been washed away by flood water. Since then people in the area were depending on the temporary bridge.
The district administration has launched efforts to restore the communication line in the area of late.
