Cuttack: A six-member team has been formed by the district administration on Thursday to probe the Chlorine gas leakage incident that took place on SCB Medical College and Hospital premises yesterday.
According to reports, the team is comprised of officials of the public health division, additional director of Factories & Boilers Directorate and SCB superintendent.
The team led by ADM (Revenue) Raghuram Iyer, will submit the probe report to the district collector Sushant Mohapatra, based on which action will be taken.
As many as 49 persons were taken ill following leakage of the gas from tanks stored in a pump house of public health engineering organisation (PHEO), located inside the medical premises yesterday.
Students of the medical college, firefighters and family members of some patients were among those who fell sick and were admitted to the same hospital.
According to hospital authorities, out of 49 people, 23 were discharged soon after medication yesterday while 26 are still undergoing treatment. Of the 26, 12 are being treated in pulmonary medicine department while 14 are in ICU. However, their condition is said to be stable.
Fire officials said three cylinders, each containing 100 kilos of chlorine gas, was stored in the pump house. And one of the cylinders had developed cracks due to rusting following which gas leaked from it.
