6 injured in Narbheram steel plant accident

NarbheramDhenkanal: Six workers of Narbheram Power and Steel Private Limited located at Gundichapada area here received burn injuries on Tuesday while working at the smelter unit of the plant.

A small amount of molten cast iron reportedly spilled out of the unit due to a technical glitch and fell on at least six workers present nearby. While all of them sustained injuries in the incident, three among them are stated to be serious.

Plant authorities first rushed all six to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and later shifted the critical three to Ashwini Hospital in Cuttack for better treatment.

Those who have been shifted to Cuttack are Pawan Sahani, Dwarikanath Dehury and Shambhu Kumar Mahato.

Plant authorities meanwhile have claimed that the accident was a minor one and three of the injured workers have been discharged after treatment.

“No major injuries have been caused by the accident and the three injured have been shifted to a private hospital in Cuttack for better treatment only,” said Subhankar Tripathy, DGM (HR), Narbheram Power and Steel Private Limited.
