6-hour Rajnagar bandh over Biju statue vandalization cripples life

Kendrapara: Life came to a standstill in Rajnagar area today following a 6-hour bandh observed by Biju Janata Dal (BJP) and locals over vandalization of legendary Biju Patnaik’s statue in the area by some locals yesterday.

Schools and Colleges remained closed during the bandh observation which began at 6 AM in the morning and will continue till 12 noon.

Shops and other business establishments also remained closed in view of the bandh during which the protesters resorted to protesting. Major market places in the area like Trinath Bazar, Gopalpur Bazar and Rajnagar Bazar witnessed a complete closure during the bandh observation.

Bandh supporters protested the act beheading late Biju Patnaik’s statue and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. They also appealed the administration to declare the area where the statue was located as ‘prohibited zone’ to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Notably, BJD activists had staged a road blockade on Pattamundai-Rajnagar Main Road at Trinath Bazaar yesterday protesting the decapitation of the statue.
