55-year-old man killed in elephant attack in Odisha

Dhenkanal: A 55-year-old man was killed after being attacked by a wild elephant in a paddy field near Damola village under Mahabirod Range in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Srikanta Muduli of Damola village under Parjang police limits in the district.

The incident occurred early in the morning when Muduli was busy in cutting the paddy crops in his own paddy field.

The other farmers, who were present nearby the paddy field, ran away from the spot out of fear, sources said adding that Muduli died on the spot.

Locals said a herd of wild elephants went on a rampage, damaging several houses and standing crops in Damola village in the wee hours of today.

On being informed, local police and forest official reached the spot and began investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, the villagers detained the forest officials to press their demand to take immediate steps for driving the animals away from the region.
