Baripada: A 50-year old man was on Friday arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl in Bala under Karanjia police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, a police official said.
The accused has been identified as Purendra Mahato , a neighbour of the victim.
According to reports, Purendra committed the crime last evening when the girl was alone at her residence. Her parents had been to market for a while when the incident occurred.
After returning of her parents, the girl, whose condition was critical, narrated about the incident.
The girl was rushed to Karangia Sub-Divisional Hospital. Her condition was stated to be critical, when the last reports came in.
The accused would be forwarded to the court today after the completion of his medical test, police said.
