5 Students killed in Bhadrak accident; CM announces Rs 2lakh ex-gratia

Bhadrak: In a tragic incident, at least five school students were killed and nine others sustained critical injuries after being mowed down by a speeding truck on NH 16 near Ranital here in Odisha on Thursday.

The injured students were admitted to district headquarters hospital in critical condition. All the victims have been identified as the students of the Ranital High School in the district.

According to reports, a speeding truck ran over the students at Rahanja square on NH-16 while they were crossing the road on their way back to homes from school.

Soon after the incident, angry local set the truck on fire and staged road blockade on the NH.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed grief over the deaths and announced an ex-gratria of Rs 2 lakhs each to the kin of the deceased.
