Balasore/Rayagada: At least five shops have been gutted in separate fire mishaps in Balasore and Rayagada districts of Odisha late last night.
In the first instance, sparks erupted at a garage located at Telengasahi in Police Line in Balasore town and later spread to its neighborhood. While, the owner of the garage launched an firefighting effort on his own and later called up fire officials, till they reached the blazed had completely reduced at least three garages.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained an electric short circuit is said to be behind it.
In a similar incident, fire engulfed at least two shops located under the flyover at Sarala Chhak in Rayagada town later in the night. While, fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the flames till then goods worth lakhs had been lost to it.
Police have rushed to the spot and are trying to ascertain the cause of the fire.
