5 Maoists arrested for killing tribal man in Odisha

Malkangiri: In a major breakthrough, the district police today arrested five Maoists for their involvement in the murder of a tribal man near Dhakadrasi village under Mathili police limits of the district.

Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena said, “Anantaram Bhumia of Barubeda village was hacked to death by a group of Maoists on the night of October 23 while he had gone to watch some stage show at Dhakadrasi village. The district police had launched an anti-Maoist operation in the area following Bhumia’s murder and arrested five red rebels today.

“We are not able to reveal their identities now. We will conduct a test of identification parade to improve the chances of their conviction,” he added.

Speaking more about the incident, Meena said that police also have seized the axes and other weapons which they had used to murder Bhumia. The weapons were seized under Section 27 of Evidence Act.
