Khurda: In a tragic incident, at least five persons were killed and three others got critically injured in an explosion inside a cracker manufacturing unit at Siko village in Begunia block of the district in Odisha this morning.
The deceased belong to two different families, staying close to the manufacturing unit owned by one Sanei Sethi of the village.
Two persons, including a woman, were found dead on the spot, while three other persons died during their treatment at the Khurda district headquarters hospital.
The injured persons were immediately rushed to Begunia hospital and later shifted to Khurda hospital as their conditions deteriorated.
Rescue work is still going on by fire officials with the help of the local people with a concrete slab that fell off a nearby building yet to be removed.
Meanwhile, it is not clear whether Sethi had gvernment permission to run his cracker manufacturing unit in the heart of the village.
